Your pain is just a PART of you, it does not define you.
RETHINK CHRONIC PAIN

Rethink Chronic Pain is a mastermind program where multiple health professionals come together to bring education, empowerment, awareness and connection to the chronic pain community.
4-Weeks
7-8:30pm Wednesdays
IN Person / Virtual Workshops
August 3rd-24th, 2022
Chronic pain levels can change as quickly as the lights changing on a traffic light.
One minute we can be smiling, laughing and talking and the next...we can barely focus, and be brought to tears from such high levels of pain.
There are so many different things that can trigger pain- movement, trauma, stillness, inflammation, mindset, weather, energies and SO much more. It really takes a holistic approach- one where we focus on the mind, body and soul to help manage pain levels.

Testimonials
What a blessing this work shop was. Never could I have imagined finding so many like minded and supportive strangers who not only understood but wanted to help. The combination of connection to others and shared experiences with the training and knowledge of hosts as well as other educated professionals in the community truly has changed my thinking of chronic pain and what the future can look like. Came in strangers leaving with tools and connection. Thank you .

If you look up chronic pain in the dictionary or on Google, you will find a variation of the following definition: ‘Chronic pain is defined as persistent pain in one or more regions of the body that lasts longer than the typical period of time expected for healing, usually three to six months.”
Chronic pain affects you not only physically, but socially, emotionally and psychologically as well- impacting everything from sleep and mental wellbeing, to work, activities of daily living (i.e. showering) and relationships.
Chronic pain is still widely misunderstood by many healthcare practitioners, and therefore the approach to pain management in many cases, still remains on pain caused by mechanical dysfunction alone, and does not take into consideration an extremely important piece of the puzzle; the mind and body connection.
Our brain and our body are in constant communication-when your body senses the world, that information is passed through our nervous system, to and from the brain.
Focusing on a more holistic approach will help those living in chronic pain, better understand the underlying causes of the persistent pain, help create community and connection as well as help patients feel empowered to take control of their health.

When you live in chronic pain, you feel like you are always waiting...

Waiting for pain flares to stop, for medication to kick in, the heating pad to bring relief or an icepack to help numb-inflammation.

You wait for your next doctors appointments, lab tests and/or results. You wait to see specialists, to have surgery or to find ANY effective way to manage your pain.

You wait and you wait and you wait.

Just to be told to wait a little longer
IT'S TIME TO STOP WAITING.
It's time to take control of your health. The more you know, the more you can do.
When pain persists, becoming “chronic,” it also becomes more complex. Research and experience shows that psychological and emotional elements play a major role. These non-physical components can help the brain “learn” to be in pain, re-wiring the body’s neural circuitry to perpetuate the sensation of pain.

With proper therapeutic attention the brain can "unlearn" pain, paving the way to even some physical pain relief. Research shows that methods like education, writing, mindfulness, visualization, and cognitive behavioural therapy can successfully help the brain to stop or reduce this recurring pain cycle.

Sydney knows first hand the power of the mind body connection, and the importance of taking care of ALL aspects of health. Not long ago Sydney was living in excruciating pain, completely wheelchair bound due to a rare progressive connective tissue disorder (Ehlers Danlos Syndrome),

While also living with PTSD Sydney spent a LONG time expecting the worst things to happen, and , for her pain to always flare -- she was constantly preparing herself for the worst-case scenario. All that worrying ever did was make her pain worse,.
So, she learned to stop focussing on all the bad things that her pain COULD bring, and all the bad things that COULD happen and started focusing on all the amazing things that her pain COULD bring, all the wonderful things that COULD happen.
Sydney is now a Holistic Health Coach focusing on nutrition and helping others with physical and mental health obstacles reach their health and wellness goals.
